Nate Howe has served as Chief Information Security Officer and professor of cybersecurity at the University of Texas at Dallas since 2014. Nate rebuilt the Information Security Office, introduced new approaches to network penetration testing and incident response, and improved program maturity scores as measured by the State of Texas. He specializes in risk reduction, regulatory compliance, and building cultures of accountability while advising boards, audit committees, and regulators.
Before working in higher education, Nate grew his career in financial services. He led enterprise risk management at Western Federal Credit Union, overseeing cybersecurity, business continuity planning, internal audit, insurance, and physical security. Nate also served Ameriquest Mortgage, NASDAQ, and Arthur Andersen.
Nate holds an Executive Certificate in Nonprofit Governance and accomplished industry certifications including cybersecurity (SANS GIAC), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA).
